Then I spent the afternoon driving around with the superintendent looking for birds in Medora and west of Medora near the petrified forest. Learning the route to the petrified forest was a mandatory part of my training, but having the superintendent skid her 4-wheel drive truck down an icy, rutted dirt road like a luge track was the fun part. I saw 6 golden eagles (including two together), a rough-legged hawk, pheasants, and a couple hundred robins.
I checked out the Iron Horse Saloon last night. I was advised to go to the other place instead, but it seemed closed when I walked by. It's a pretty sad affair in the dead of winter; I was the only person there when I arrived, but there were 3 others when I left. The rest of Medora is basically a ghost town. I don't think I need to go to the Iron Horse very often, but I'm not planning to keep adult beverages in the fridge lest I sit around consuming them routinely.
